E-Clar (125mg/5ml) 25ml Suspension

E-Clar Suspension contains Clarithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, stopping the growth and spread of bacteria. This suspension is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, skin infections, ear infections, and throat infections in children. It is well tolerated and effective against bacteria resistant to other antibiotics.

Ingredients

• Active Ingredient: Clarithromycin 125 mg per 5 ml

• Inactive Ingredients: Sucrose, citric acid, xanthan gum, flavoring and coloring agents, sodium benzoate, and purified water.

Uses

• Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Certain bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract (including Helicobacter pylori in combination therapy)

Dosage

• Children: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours (twice daily), up to a maximum of 500 mg twice daily, as directed by the doctor.

• Shake well before each use.

• Measure the dose accurately using the measuring spoon or dropper provided.

• The usual duration of treatment is 5–10 days depending on the infection type and severity.

In Case of Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, or diarrhea. In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention or contact a healthcare facility.

Missed Dose
If a dose is missed, give it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.

How To Use

1. Shake the bottle well before each use.

2. Use the measuring device provided to ensure accurate dosing.

3. Can be given with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset.

4. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early to prevent recurrence or resistance.

When Not to Use

• If allergic to Clarithromycin, erythromycin, or any macrolide antibiotic.

• In patients with severe liver impairment or jaundice associated with previous macrolide use.

• In patients taking medications such as ergot alkaloids, pimozide, cisapride, or certain statins (due to serious interactions).

• Not for viral infections like flu or the common cold.

Side Effects

• Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, taste changes.

• Less common: Headache, dizziness, rash, or mild elevation in liver enzymes.

• Rare but serious: Severe allergic reaction, jaundice, or irregular heartbeat.
  Contact your doctor if any serious or persistent side effects occur.

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease.

• Avoid giving with medicines known to cause QT prolongation.

• Inform the doctor if the child is taking any other antibiotics or medications.

• Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Prolonged or repeated use may result in fungal infections (thrush).

• Stop use and seek medical help if allergic symptoms such as rash or swelling develop.

Drug Interactions

• May interact with statins (simvastatin, lovastatin), theophylline, warfarin, carbamazepine, digoxin, or certain antifungal and heart medications.

• Inform the doctor about all medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements the patient is taking.

Storage/Disposal
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
After reconstitution, refrigerate if advised on the label.
Use within 7–14 days after preparation.
Keep tightly closed and out of reach of children.
Discard any remaining suspension after the expiry period as instructed on the label.
