💉 Dose must be individualized by a physician based on blood sugar monitoring.
Adults & Children: Varies depending on blood glucose level, diet, and activity
Usual total daily insulin requirement: 0.5–1.0 IU/kg body weight (split doses if combined with short-acting insulin)
Administer once or twice daily, usually in combination with a rapid- or short-acting insulin
Symptoms: Hypoglycemia (sweating, shakiness, confusion, headache, rapid heartbeat, fainting)

Inject subcutaneously (thigh, upper arm, buttock, or abdomen)
Rotate injection sites to avoid lipodystrophy (fat tissue changes)
Do not inject intramuscularly or intravenously unless prescribed by a doctor
Hypersensitivity to human insulin or any excipient
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar at time of injection)
Common:
Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
Redness, swelling, or pain at injection site
Mild weight gain
Serious (rare):
Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
Lipodystrophy (skin thickening or pitting at injection site)
Vision changes due to shifting glucose control
Monitor blood glucose regularly
Dose adjustments may be required during illness, stress, pregnancy, or surgery
Use with caution in kidney or liver impairment
Inform your doctor of all other medications
Avoid alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycemia)
Safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding but requires close medical supervision
Hypoglycemia risk increased by: Oral antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, MAO inhibitors, sulfonamides, alcohol
Reduced effect by: Corticosteroids, oral contraceptives, thyroid hormones, diuretics, sympathomimetics
