Augmentin (1.2g) Injection is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combining Amoxicillin (a penicillin-class antibiotic) with Clavulanic Acid (a beta-lactamase inhibitor). This combination enhances bacterial coverage and effectiveness against resistant strains. It is used in the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections when oral therapy is not suitable.

Adults & Children >40kg: 1.2g every 8 hours (can be increased to every 6 hours in severe cases)
Children <40kg: 30mg/kg (based on amoxicillin component) every 8 hours
Adjust dose in patients with renal impairment
Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, electrolyte imbalance, kidney impairment, seizures (rare)
Management: Symptomatic treatment, maintain hydration, hemodialysis in severe cases
Administer as soon as possible if missed
Do not double dose; continue with the next scheduled dose
For intravenous (IV) injection or infusion and intramuscular (IM) injection
Must be reconstituted with appropriate diluent before administration

Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillins, or cephalosporins
History of severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to beta-lactams
Patients with liver dysfunction associated with previous Augmentin use
Common:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Skin rash, mild itching
Pain at injection site
Serious (rare):
Severe allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing, anaphylaxis)
Hepatitis or jaundice
Severe diarrhea (Clostridium difficile colitis)
Blood disorders (rare)
Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease
Monitor liver function if used for prolonged treatment
Not effective against viral infections (e.g., flu, cold)
Inform doctor of all medications before starting therapy
Use only when prescribed by a healthcare professional
May interact with:
Allopurinol (increased risk of rash)
Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin – may alter INR)
Methotrexate (increased toxicity risk)
Other antibiotics (tetracyclines, macrolides may reduce effectiveness)
Store below 25°C in a dry place
Protect from direct light and moisture
Use immediately after reconstitution
Discard any unused solution safely
