Description

Ferti-M 150 IU Injection contains Menotrophin (Human Menopausal Gonadotropin – HMG), a purified combination of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH). It is widely used in fertility treatment to stimulate the ovaries in women and to support sperm production in men. Administered under strict medical supervision, it is an essential medication in assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as IVF.

Ingredients

  • Active Ingredient: Menotrophin (150 IU) – containing both FSH and LH activity

  • Excipients: Lactose, sodium phosphate buffer, water for injection (after reconstitution)

Drug Class

  • Gonadotropin – Fertility Drug (FSH + LH combination)

Dosage Form

  • Injection – Powder vial with solvent for reconstitution

Uses / Indications

  • Women:

    • Stimulation of follicular development in anovulatory or oligo-ovulatory infertility

    • Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation in assisted reproductive technologies (IVF, ICSI)

  • Men:

    • Stimulation of spermatogenesis in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (low sperm production due to pituitary dysfunction)

Dosage (general guidance, individualized by physician)

  • Women:

    • Initial dose: 75–150 IU daily (subcutaneous or intramuscular) starting on Day 2–3 of the cycle.

    • Dose may be adjusted depending on ovarian response, usually not exceeding 450 IU/day.

    • Followed by HCG injection to induce ovulation when follicles are mature.

  • Men:

    • Typically 75–150 IU 2–3 times per week in combination with HCG.

  • Administered under specialist supervision only.

In Case of Overdose

  • May cause ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in women, leading to abdominal pain, bloating, rapid weight gain, and breathing difficulty.

  • In men, may cause excessive androgen production.

  • Management: discontinue drug, supportive care, and hospitalization if severe.

Missed Dose

  • Take as soon as remembered if close to schedule.

  • Do not double dose; continue with regular treatment schedule.

  • Inform doctor if multiple doses are missed.

How To Use

  • Reconstitute powder with provided solvent before injection.

  • Administered intramuscularly (IM) or subcutaneously (SC) by a trained healthcare provider or self-injection (if properly instructed).

  • Treatment requires ultrasound and hormone monitoring to prevent complications like OHSS.

When Not to Use (Contraindications)

  • Hypersensitivity to menotrophins or excipients

  • Ovarian, testicular, or breast tumors

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal disease

  • Ovarian cysts not due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

  • Primary ovarian or testicular failure (where stimulation is ineffective)

Side Effects

Common:

  • Injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling)

  • Headache, fatigue, mood swings

  • Abdominal discomfort, bloating

Women:

  • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)

  • Multiple pregnancy (twins or more)

Men:

  • Acne, gynecomastia (breast enlargement), mood changes

Serious (rare):

  • Thromboembolic events (blood clots)

  • Severe allergic reactions

Precautions & Warnings

  • Treatment must be carried out in a fertility clinic under close monitoring.

  • Women should undergo regular ultrasound scans and hormone testing during stimulation.

  • Increased risk of multiple pregnancies with fertility treatment.

  • Men should be monitored for testosterone levels and sperm count during therapy.

  • Not for general use outside infertility treatment protocols.

Drug Interactions

  • May interact with other fertility drugs (e.g., clomiphene, HCG), increasing ovarian response.

  • No significant interactions with common medicines, but always inform doctor of ongoing treatments.

Storage / Disposal

  • Store refrigerated at 2–8°C before reconstitution. Do not freeze.

  • After reconstitution, use immediately (single-use vial).

  • Dispose of used vials, needles, and syringes in sharps containers.

Control Drug / Prescription Status

  • Prescription-only medicine

  • To be used only under specialist medical supervision in fertility treatment

Quick Tips

  • Ferti-M helps regulate fertility by providing both FSH (egg/sperm growth) and LH (ovulation/testosterone stimulation).

  • Women: Report abdominal pain, bloating, or sudden weight gain (possible OHSS).

  • Men: May be combined with HCG to optimize sperm production.

  • Do not self-medicate; always follow fertility doctor’s protocol.
