Fortum Injection contains Ceftazidime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used to treat a wide range of severe bacterial infections, especially those caused by Gram-negative organisms including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Active ingredient: Ceftazidime 250 mg (as pentahydrate) per vial
Excipients: May contain sodium carbonate (to adjust pH)

Fortum is indicated for treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, lung infections in cystic fibrosis)
Urinary tract infections (complicated cases)
Skin and soft tissue infections
Bone and joint infections
Abdominal infections (peritonitis, biliary tract infections)
Meningitis (bacterial)
Septicemia (bloodstream infections)
Infections in immunocompromised patients (including neutropenic patients)
Adults: 1–2 g every 8–12 hours IV or IM, depending on severity.
Children: 30–50 mg/kg every 8 hours.
Neonates (up to 2 months): 25–60 mg/kg per day in divided doses.
Renal impairment: Dosage adjustment required.
Always reconstituted with sterile water or appropriate diluent before use.
Symptoms: Neurological effects (e.g., seizures, encephalopathy), especially in patients with renal impairment.
Management: Symptomatic and supportive care; hemodialysis may help remove drug.
Administer as soon as possible if missed.
If close to next dose, skip missed dose — do not double.
Administered by intravenous injection, infusion, or intramuscular injection.
Must be prepared freshly before administration.
Given by healthcare professionals in hospital/clinical setting.
Known hypersensitivity to ceftazidime, other cephalosporins, or severe allergic reaction to penicillins.
Use with caution in patients with a history of severe beta-lactam allergy.
Common:
Pain or redness at injection site
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
Rash, itching
Serious (rare):
Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, angioedema)
Clostridium difficile–associated diarrhea
Seizures (especially in renal impairment)
Blood disorders (leukopenia, thrombocytopenia)
Adjust dose in renal impairment to avoid neurotoxicity.
Monitor for signs of superinfection (fungal or bacterial overgrowth).
Use cautiously in patients with history of GI disease (especially colitis).
Monitor blood counts and kidney function during prolonged therapy.
Aminoglycosides: May increase nephrotoxicity risk.
Loop diuretics (e.g., furosemide): Increased kidney toxicity risk.
Chloramphenicol: May antagonize cephalosporins’ antibacterial effects.
Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture.
Reconstituted solution should be used immediately (or within manufacturer’s specified timeframe if refrigerated).
Discard unused portion safely.
