Oxidil (500mg) IM Injection contains Cefuroxime Sodium, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of bacteria. Oxidil is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, making it a versatile option for moderate to severe infections.

Adults: 750 mg to 1.5 g every 8 hours, depending on severity (500mg dose used for mild/moderate cases).
Children: 30–100 mg/kg/day in 3–4 divided doses.
Adjust dose in renal impairment.
Duration: usually 7–10 days, or as prescribed by physician.
May cause neurological symptoms (e.g., seizures, confusion, encephalopathy).
Management: supportive care, control of seizures, and hemodialysis in severe renal impairment.
If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible.
If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose.
Do not double inject to compensate.
Administered via intramuscular injection by a healthcare professional.
Reconstitute vial with sterile water for injection before use.
Inject deeply into a large muscle mass to minimize local irritation.
Known hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, cephalosporins, or severe allergy to penicillins.
Previous severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to beta-lactam antibiotics.

Serious:

Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea

Kidney or liver function changes

Monitor kidney function in long-term use or elderly patients.
Prolonged use may lead to superinfection with resistant organisms.
Safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding under medical supervision.
Probenecid increases cefuroxime levels by reducing renal excretion.
Concomitant use with loop diuretics or aminoglycosides may increase risk of nephrotoxicity.
May interfere with some urine glucose tests (false positives).
Store vials at below 25°C, protected from light and moisture.
Reconstituted solution should be used immediately.
Dispose of needles and vials in sharps containers.
