Qbal Injection contains Vitamin B12 (commonly mecobalamin or cyanocobalamin), an essential water-soluble vitamin required for healthy red blood cell formation, neurological function, and DNA synthesis. It is primarily used to treat or prevent Vitamin B12 deficiency and related disorders such as anemia and neuropathies.
Active ingredient: Vitamin B12 (Mecobalamin or Cyanocobalamin) 500 mcg per 1 ml ampoule
Excipients: water for injection, stabilizers, and buffers (as per manufacturer’s formulation)
Vitamin supplement – Vitamin B12 (hematopoietic and neurotropic agent)
Injection (solution)
Pack: 10 ampoules of 500 mcg each
Routes: intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SC), or intravenous (IV) administration
Qbal Injection is indicated for:
Vitamin B12 deficiency
Pernicious anemia (megaloblastic anemia due to B12 deficiency)
Peripheral neuropathy
Diabetic neuropathy
Neuralgia, neuritis, or nerve pain syndromes
Supportive therapy in neurological disorders related to B12 deficiency
Nutritional supplementation in patients with malabsorption (e.g., after GI surgery, Crohn’s disease)
Adults:
For B12 deficiency: 500 mcg IM/SC 3 times a week for 2 months, then maintenance once every 1–3 months
For neuropathy: 500 mcg IM/IV 2–3 times a week, depending on severity
Children: dose adjusted according to age/weight and deficiency status
Duration: depends on the condition (short-term in deficiency correction, long-term in chronic conditions like pernicious anemia)
Vitamin B12 has a wide safety margin; overdose is rare and usually not harmful.
Extremely high doses may cause acne-like rash, diarrhea, or blood clotting disturbances.
Management: supportive and symptomatic care.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered.
If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose.
Do not double inject.
Wash hands and prepare injection equipment.
Draw the prescribed dose into a sterile syringe.
Administer by IM, SC, or slow IV injection (as per doctor’s advice).
Rotate injection sites to prevent local irritation.
Dispose of used ampoules and syringes safely.
Known hypersensitivity to Vitamin B12 or cobalt
Leber’s optic atrophy (may worsen condition)
Caution in patients with polycythemia vera (B12 may stimulate red blood cell production further)
Common (mild):
Pain, redness, or swelling at injection site
Mild headache
Itching or skin rash
Rare (serious):
Allergic reaction (hives, swelling, difficulty breathing)
Hypokalemia (low potassium) after rapid correction of anemia
Dizziness or palpitations
Use cautiously in patients with kidney disease or liver impairment
Monitor potassium levels in severe megaloblastic anemia treatment
Regular blood counts may be required during long-term therapy
Safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding, but dosage should be confirmed by a doctor
Chloramphenicol: may interfere with blood response to Vitamin B12
Metformin, colchicine, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs): may reduce Vitamin B12 absorption (patients may need higher doses)
Alcohol: long-term use reduces B12 absorption
Store below 25°C, protected from light and freezing
Keep ampoules in original packaging until use
Discard any unused solution once opened
Dispose of needles and ampoules in sharps containers
