Clexane contains Enoxaparin Sodium, a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) used as an anticoagulant (blood thinner). It helps prevent the formation of harmful blood clots in veins, arteries, or lungs. Clexane is commonly prescribed for the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and clotting disorders after surgery. It is also used in patients with unstable angina or heart attack to improve blood flow and reduce complications.
Active Ingredient: Enoxaparin Sodium 40mg (per 0.4ml)
Inactive Ingredients: Water for injection, hydrochloric acid/sodium hydroxide (pH adjustment)
Anticoagulant (Low Molecular Weight Heparin)
Pre-filled syringe injection (subcutaneous use) – 2 × 0.4ml syringes (40mg)
Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after surgery or long bed rest
Treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE)
Prevention of clotting in patients with restricted mobility
Management of unstable angina and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI)
Used in some cases during hemodialysis to prevent clotting in dialysis lines
Adults (Prophylaxis): 40mg once daily via subcutaneous injection
Treatment of DVT/PE: 1mg/kg body weight every 12 hours or 1.5mg/kg once daily
Dosage may vary based on kidney function, weight, and medical condition
Always follow the exact dose prescribed by your doctor
Symptoms: Excessive bleeding, unusual bruising, blood in urine/stool, prolonged clotting time
Management: Immediate medical attention; protamine sulfate may be used as an antidote
Take as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose
Do not double the dose to make up for the missed injection
For subcutaneous injection only (do not inject into muscle or vein unless instructed)
Usually administered in the abdomen (stomach area), alternating sides
Do not expel air bubble from the syringe before injection (it helps prevent leakage)
Use under medical supervision or with proper training
Allergy to Enoxaparin, Heparin, or other anticoagulants
Active major bleeding or conditions with high bleeding risk
History of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT)
Severe uncontrolled hypertension
Patients with active stomach or intestinal ulcers
Common: Pain, redness, or bruising at injection site
Serious (Seek help): Unusual bleeding, black/tarry stools, blood in urine, severe headache, dizziness, or chest pain
Rare: Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, breathing difficulty)
Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, liver problems, or low platelet count
Inform doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Regular blood clotting tests (platelet count, anti-Xa levels) may be required
Avoid activities that increase bleeding risk (contact sports, sharp tools)
Inform healthcare providers before surgery or dental procedures
Other anticoagulants (Warfarin, Dabigatran, Rivaroxaban)
Antiplatelets (Aspirin, Clopidogrel)
NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Naproxen)
Herbal supplements with blood-thinning effects (Garlic, Ginkgo, Ginger)
