NovoMix 30 (100IU/ml) is a biphasic insulin injection used for the management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains a premixed formulation of rapid-acting insulin aspart and intermediate-acting insulin aspart protamine, which helps control blood glucose both after meals and throughout the day. Packaged in convenient FlexPens, it allows for accurate dosing and ease of self-administration.
Active Ingredients:
Insulin Aspart (soluble, rapid-acting) – 30%
Insulin Aspart Protamine (intermediate-acting) – 70%
Inactive Ingredients: Metacresol, phenol, glycerol, zinc chloride, disodium phosphate dihydrate, sodium chloride, and water for injection.
Antidiabetic Agent – Biphasic Insulin Analog

NovoMix 30 is prescribed for:
Management of Type 1 diabetes mellitus
Management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus when oral medications are insufficient
Control of blood glucose levels both after meals (postprandial) and in between meals
Adults & Adolescents: Dose is individualized based on blood sugar monitoring, dietary habits, and doctor’s recommendation.
Typically injected once or twice daily with meals.
Adjustments may be required during illness, stress, or changes in physical activity.
Do not self-adjust dosage without consulting a doctor.
Excess insulin may cause severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), leading to sweating, confusion, tremors, rapid heartbeat, or fainting. Immediate treatment with oral glucose or IV glucose (in hospital) may be required.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember if it is near mealtime.
If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose.
Do not double inject to make up for a missed dose.
Use the FlexPen device for accurate insulin delivery.
Inject subcutaneously (under the skin) in the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm.
Rotate injection sites to prevent lipodystrophy (fat tissue changes).
Administer immediately before a meal or within 10 minutes after starting a meal.
Do not inject intravenously.
Allergy to insulin aspart or any other ingredients in NovoMix 30
During episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Do not use if the insulin solution looks cloudy, has clumps, or has been frozen
Common:
Hypoglycemia (shaking, sweating, dizziness, confusion)
Injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling)
Weight gain
Rare but Serious:
Severe allergic reactions (rash, difficulty breathing, swelling)
Lipodystrophy at injection site
Vision changes
Monitor blood glucose regularly.
Use with caution in patients with kidney, liver, or heart disease.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy.
Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Do not share your insulin pens with others, even if the needle is changed.
NovoMix 30 may interact with:
Blood sugar–lowering drugs (sulfonylureas, metformin)
Corticosteroids, diuretics, thyroid medications (may increase blood sugar)
Beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycemia symptoms)
Alcohol (can increase risk of hypoglycemia)
Store unopened pens in a refrigerator (2°C – 8°C). Do not freeze.
After opening, store at room temperature (below 30°C) and use within 4 weeks.
Keep away from direct sunlight and heat.
Dispose of used pens and needles safely in a sharps container.
Not a controlled drug. Prescription required.
Always carry glucose tablets or a sugary snack to manage sudden hypoglycemia.
Keep a regular schedule of meals, exercise, and insulin dosing.
Educate family members on recognizing and treating hypoglycemia.
Check blood sugar more frequently during illness or travel.
