Azitma (500mg) Tablets contain Azithromycin, a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, throat, ear, skin, and urinary system. It works by stopping the growth and spread of bacteria, helping the body fight infection effectively.

Uses

Azitma 500mg is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including:

Dosage

⚠️ Use only as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Adults:

    • 500mg once daily for 3 days, OR

    • 500mg on Day 1 followed by 250mg once daily on Days 2–5.

  • For STIs (Chlamydia): A single 1g (two 500mg tablets) dose may be used.

  • Children: Dosing is based on body weight (usually 10mg/kg/day for 3 days).

  • Route: Oral — swallow whole with a glass of water, with or without food.


In Case of Overdose

Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, temporary hearing loss.
Action: Contact a doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately for medical assistance.


Missed Dose

  • Take the missed dose as soon as possible.

  • If it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule.

  • Do not double the dose.


How To Use

  1. Take Azitma 500mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

  2. Can be taken with or without meals (preferably 1 hour before or 2 hours after food).

  3. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.

  4. Complete the entire prescribed course, even if symptoms improve early.


When Not to Use

Do not use Azitma if you:

  • Are allergic to Azithromycin or any other macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin).

  • Have a history of liver disease or jaundice after previous antibiotic use.

  • Suffer from heart rhythm disorders (QT prolongation).

  • Are currently taking ergotamine or dihydroergotamine (migraine medicines).

Rare / Serious Side Effects:

  • Allergic reaction (swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Use cautiously if you have liver, kidney, or heart disease.

  • Avoid taking antacids containing aluminum or magnesium at the same time; they reduce absorption.

  • Do not consume alcohol while taking this medication.

  • Inform your healthcare provider if you are taking warfarin, digoxin, or cyclosporine.

Azitma may interact with:

  • Warfarin – may increase bleeding risk
