Description

Calan 40mg Tablets contain Verapamil Hydrochloride, a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), angina (chest pain), and certain heart rhythm disorders such as supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and atrial fibrillation.
It works by relaxing blood vessels and slowing the heart rate, helping the heart pump more efficiently and reducing its workload. Calan is often prescribed to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications.

In Case of Overdose

Symptoms:

  • Extremely slow heart rate, severe low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, confusion, or cardiac arrest.

Action:

  • Seek immediate emergency medical help.

  • Hospitalization and supportive treatment (including activated charcoal or IV calcium) may be necessary.


Missed Dose

  • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember.

  • If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one.

  • Do not double your dose to make up for a missed tablet.


How To Use

  • Take orally with a glass of water.

  • Can be taken with or without food, but take consistently the same way each time.

  • Swallow the tablet whole — do not crush or chew.

  • Take at the same times each day to maintain stable blood levels.

  • Continue the medication even if you feel well — high blood pressure usually has no symptoms.


When Not to Use

  • Known allergy to Verapamil or similar drugs

  • Severe heart failure or cardiogenic shock

  • Second- or third-degree heart block (unless pacemaker is present)

  • Severe low blood pressure (hypotension)

  • Recent heart attack with heart failure

  • Concomitant use with IV beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol)


Side Effects
