⚠️ Dose depends on infection severity, age, weight, and kidney function.
Adults: 15 mg/kg/day IM or IV, in 2 divided doses (max 1.5 g/day).

Take as soon as remembered, unless close to next scheduled dose.
Do not double the dose.
Consult doctor for further instructions.
Administered via intramuscular injection or slow intravenous infusion.
Must be given by a healthcare professional.
Monitor renal function and hearing regularly during treatment.
Hypersensitivity to amikacin or other aminoglycosides
Pre-existing hearing or balance problems
Severe kidney impairment (unless essential and adjusted)
Pregnancy (unless benefits outweigh risks)
Patients with neuromuscular disorders (e.g., myasthenia gravis)
Common:
Pain or irritation at injection site
Headache, nausea, fever
Rash
Serious:
Ototoxicity (hearing loss, ringing in ears, vertigo)
Nephrotoxicity (kidney damage)
Neuromuscular blockade (muscle weakness, paralysis)
Severe allergic reactions (rare)
Use with caution in elderly patients and those with impaired kidney function
Regular monitoring of kidney function and hearing tests is necessary
Avoid long-term use due to increased toxicity risk
Dose adjustment required in renal impairment
Do not use with other ototoxic or nephrotoxic medicines unless necessary
Loop diuretics (e.g., furosemide, ethacrynic acid) → increased risk of hearing damage
Other aminoglycosides (gentamicin, kanamycin, tobramycin) → additive toxicity
Vancomycin, amphotericin B, cisplatin, cyclosporine → increased risk of kidney damage
Neuromuscular blockers → enhanced paralysis risk
