Description

Avil injection (pheniramine maleate) is an antihistamine preparation used to manage allergic reactions. It works by blocking histamine effects in the body, helping reduce itching, swelling, rash, hives, and other allergic symptoms. The 2 ml ampoule delivers 25 mg dosage. It is used in hospital or clinical settings under physician supervision.

Ingredients

  • Active ingredient: Pheniramine maleate (25 mg per 2 ml)

  • Excipients / Inactive ingredients: (as per manufacturer — e.g., water for injection, stabilizers)

Drug Class

Antihistamine (first-generation) / H1 receptor antagonist

Dosage Form

Sterile injection solution (ampoule) — 2 ml per ampoule, each containing 25 mg pheniramine maleate.

Uses (Indications)

Avil injection may be used in the following situations:

  • Treatment of moderate to severe allergic reactions (urticaria, angioedema)

  • Drug-induced hypersensitivity reactions

  • Allergic conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis

  • Insect bite / sting reactions

  • To manage pruritus (severe itching) in certain dermatological conditions

  • As adjunct therapy in anaphylactic reactions (under supervision)

Dosage

  • Adults / Adolescents (≥ 12 years): Typically 1–2 ml (i.e. 12.5–25 mg) intramuscularly (IM) or slowly intravenous (IV) (not faster than ~1 ml per minute) depending on severity.

  • Children: Dose must be adjusted based on age / weight; use under medical supervision. Some sources mention e.g. 0.5–0.7 ml for children 2 years old, etc.

  • The dose may be repeated every 12 hours or as directed by a physician if needed.

⚠️ Always follow physician’s orders and refer to the specific product insert for dosing.

In Case of Overdose

  • Symptoms: excessive sedation, respiratory depression, convulsions, hypotension, tachycardia, anticholinergic effects (dry mouth, urinary retention)

  • If overdose is suspected: seek medical attention immediately

  • Provide supportive measures, gastric lavage if recent ingestion, activated charcoal, monitoring of vital signs

Missed Dose

  • Typically, for injections given in clinical settings, missed doses are handled by the treating medical professional.

  • Do not self-administer extra dose to compensate.
