Genticyn (40mg/2ml) Injection contains Gentamicin Sulfate, a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections. It works by stopping bacterial growth and is especially effective against severe infections that do not respond to other antibiotics.
This injection is usually administered in hospitals by trained healthcare professionals either intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV).

Genticyn is prescribed for the treatment of:
Severe urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)
Skin and soft tissue infections
Bone and joint infections
Abdominal infections (peritonitis, sepsis)
Septicemia (bloodstream infections)
Meningitis (caused by susceptible organisms)
Post-surgical infections
Adults: 3–5 mg/kg body weight per day in divided doses (IM or IV).
Children: 3–5 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
Neonates & Premature Infants: 2–5 mg/kg/day.
Duration: Depends on infection severity, usually 7–10 days.
Must be administered strictly under doctor’s supervision.
Symptoms: Hearing loss, balance problems, kidney damage, breathing difficulties.
Action: Seek immediate emergency medical help.
Take the missed dose as soon as remembered if still on schedule.
Do not double dose.
Inform healthcare provider if multiple doses are missed.

Dose and duration depend on infection severity and kidney function.
Avoid Genticyn if:

Long-term use may increase the risk of secondary infections.
Not recommended during pregnancy unless no alternatives are available.
Breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before use.
Genticyn may interact with:
Other aminoglycosides (amikacin, tobramycin)
Vancomycin (increases kidney toxicity risk)
Amphotericin B (kidney damage risk)
Diuretics like furosemide (hearing damage risk)
Muscle relaxants (may increase muscle weakness)
Store below 25°C, away from light and heat.
Do not freeze.
Keep out of reach of children.
Dispose of used ampoules safely as per hospital/clinic guidelines.
