Description

Penro (1000mg/20ml) Injection contains Meropenem, a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the carbapenem class. It is widely used to treat severe bacterial infections resistant to other antibiotics, particularly hospital-acquired infections. Penro works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death.

It is typically given in hospitals for critical infections such as pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections, meningitis, urinary tract infections, and sepsis.


Ingredients

  • Active Ingredient: Meropenem (1000mg)

  • Inactive Ingredients: Sodium carbonate, sterile water for injection

Dosage

In Case of Overdose

  • Symptoms: Seizures, confusion, nausea, diarrhea

Missed Dose

  • If missed during hospital treatment, the doctor/nurse will reschedule

  • Do not double the dose

When Not to Use

  • Allergy to Meropenem or other carbapenems

  • History of severe allergic reaction to beta-lactam antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins)

  • Less common: Headache, dizziness, abdominal pain

Drug Interactions

  • May interact with valproic acid (reduces effectiveness of valproic acid, increasing seizure risk)

  • Probenecid (increases Meropenem levels)

  • Other antibiotics and seizure medicines should be used with caution

  • Store below 25°C in a dry place

  • Protect from light and moisture

  • Reconstituted solution should be used immediately or within recommended timeframe

  • Dispose of unused medicine as per hospital guidelines
