Rocephin 500mg IM Injection contains Ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is administered via intramuscular injection and is used for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. Rocephin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, making it highly effective against severe and resistant infections.

Adults: 500mg to 1g IM once daily, depending on severity of infection
Gonorrhea (single-dose therapy): 250mg–500mg IM as a single dose

Reconstituted with sterile water or lidocaine (as recommended) before injection
Do not self-inject without medical supervision
Allergy to ceftriaxone, cephalosporins, or penicillin antibiotics
Newborns (≤28 days) with jaundice or receiving calcium-containing solutions
Patients with severe liver/kidney impairment (unless closely monitored)
History of severe antibiotic-associated diarrhea (colitis)
Common: Injection site pain/swelling, diarrhea, nausea, rash
Less common: Headache, dizziness, anemia
Serious (rare): Severe allergic reaction, seizures, jaundice, severe diarrhea (C. difficile colitis)
Use with caution in patients with:
Kidney or liver problems
Gastrointestinal conditions (especially colitis)
History of antibiotic allergy
May interfere with blood/lab tests (glucose, Coombs test)
Safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if prescribed by a doctor
Calcium-containing injections (risk of precipitation, especially in neonates)
Aminoglycosides (e.g., gentamicin) – may increase kidney toxicity
Blood thinners (warfarin, heparin) – may increase bleeding risk
Probenecid – may increase ceftriaxone concentration in blood
Store vials at room temperature (below 25°C), in a cool, dry place
Protect from direct sunlight and moisture
Use freshly reconstituted solution immediately
Discard unused solution as per medical waste guidelines
