Description

Transamin Injection contains Tranexamic Acid, an antifibrinolytic agent that prevents the breakdown of blood clots. It is widely used to control or prevent excessive bleeding in various medical and surgical conditions.

Uses / Indications

Transamin is indicated for:

  • Adults:

    • Typical dose: 500–1000 mg by IV or IM injection 2–3 times daily.

    • For surgery: given before, during, or after procedure to control bleeding.

  • Children: Dose based on weight and physician’s discretion.

  • Important: Adjust dosage in renal impairment (drug is renally excreted).


In Case of Overdose

  • Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, hypotension (if given too rapidly IV), seizures (rare, high dose).

  • Management: Symptomatic and supportive care; maintain airway and hydration.


Missed Dose

  • If a dose is missed, administer as soon as remembered, unless close to next scheduled dose.

  • Do not double the dose.


How To Use

  • Administered by intravenous (IV) injection/infusion or intramuscular (IM) injection under medical supervision.

  • IV injection should be given slowly to avoid hypotension.

  • Should not be self-administered; always given by healthcare professional.


When Not to Use (Contraindications)

  • Allergy to tranexamic acid

  • History of active intravascular clotting (e.g., deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism)

  • Patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (may worsen outcome)

  • Severe renal impairment (unless dose adjusted)

  • Active thromboembolic disease


Side Effects

Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

  • Pain or redness at injection site

  • Headache, dizziness

Serious (rare):

  • Seizures (high IV doses)

  • Visual disturbances (blurred vision, color vision changes)

  • Allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Blood clots (DVT, PE, stroke — rare but serious)

  • Use cautiously in patients with history of clotting disorders.

  • Monitor vision during prolonged therapy.

  • Adjust dose in renal impairment.

  • Not for routine prophylaxis in women with normal menstruation unless clinically indicated.

  • Inform doctor if patient is pregnant, breastfeeding, or has a history of seizures.

  • Anticoagulants / Antiplatelet agents: concurrent use requires caution and monitoring
