Velosef (250mg) Injection contains Cefradine, a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. It is used for treating mild to moderate bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, bones, and joints.

Adults:
250 mg to 1 g every 6–12 hours depending on severity.
Severe infections: higher doses up to 8 g/day (divided).
Children:
25–50 mg/kg/day divided into 2–4 doses.
Severe infections: up to 100 mg/kg/day.
Renal impairment: Dose adjustment required.
Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, possible seizures (rare).
Management: Stop drug, provide supportive treatment, hemodialysis may help.
Take as soon as remembered.
Skip if close to the next dose.
Do not double the dose.
Reconstitute the vial with sterile water for injection or compatible IV solution.
Administer by intramuscular (IM) injection or intravenous (IV) injection/infusion.
Only under medical supervision.
Known allergy to cephalosporins, penicillins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics
Severe renal impairment (without dose adjustment)
History of severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis)
Common:
Pain, swelling, or redness at injection site
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Rash or itching
Serious (rare):
Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
Stevens–Johnson syndrome (serious skin reaction)
Seizures (in high doses with renal impairment)
Blood disorders (low WBC, platelet count, or anemia)
Use with caution in patients with kidney disease
Cross-sensitivity possible with penicillin
Long-term use may cause fungal or yeast overgrowth
Pregnancy: Use only if prescribed by doctor
Breastfeeding: Passes into milk in small amounts, caution advised
Aminoglycosides (e.g., gentamicin): ↑ risk of kidney damage
Diuretics (furosemide, ethacrynic acid): ↑ nephrotoxicity risk
Oral anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin): ↑ bleeding risk
Other antibiotics: May alter effectiveness
